Summary/Abstract: All levels of state power (the executive, legislature and judiciary) are required to ensurerespect for human rights. National parliaments are the key to the effective implementation ofinternational human rights norms and standards at national level and they are in an excellentposition to protect human rights through legislating, being involved in the ratification ofinternational human rights treaties. Also, national parliaments are strategically placed to hold thegovernments to account for swift and effective implementation of the Court’s judgments, as wellas to swiftly adopt the necessary legislative amendments. This draft examines a small piece of the role of national parliaments - through the specificstructures - within domestic systems for the implementation of European Convention on HumanRights (ECHR) standards and European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR or ‘the Court’)judgments.
