Summary/Abstract: Miroslav Špiler’s Praznična Skica [The Holiday Sketch] was written in 1955, in the early days of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s symphonic musical development. This article will try to define the theoretical framework of the mass symphonism, as objectified in this composition, as an artistic principle of construction that represents the musical form as a process – a metaphor for the “unbroken stream of a musical consciousness” – as established in the musical current through the development of an initial idea. The methodological base for the research is founded in Asafyev’s theory of symphonism, approaching it as a form constructed primarily of established processes that communicate its musical, and its extramusical content as well.
