Summary/Abstract: Sidonija Rubido Erdödy (1819–1884) is one of the rare representatives of the high nobility who supported the Illyrian movement in Zagreb. She actively participated in it as a well-educated singer at concerts, and as the main female role in the opera Love and Malice (1846) by Vatroslav Lisinski (1819–1854). However, she also excelled in various other activities, such as participating in the establishment of an institution for orphans, initiating and co-financing a foundation for gifted students, etc. In many ways, she differed from the image of a noblewoman of her time in both public and private life. The article presents her activities – both musical as well as social and political – in the context of that time.
