Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the issue of spelling of prefixal and compound ethnic names and demonyms. We suggest a way to exclude proper names with the initial capital letter (Neslovák,Poloukrajinec) from this group, in contrast to expressive appellations (hejslovák, superslovák, kvázislovák). So far, these groups of nouns have not been singled out in the spelling rules, and the reasons why part of these are proper nouns, and the rest is not, has not been explained thus far.
