Summary/Abstract: According to Lysias’ oration 31 the paper deals with the relationship citizens – noncitizens, i.e. metics, and their rights, exploring this relationship with regard to moral values. It also deals with the institutional procedure of dokimasia which was established after the restoration of democracy in Athens in 403 BC in order to prevent the immoral and inappropriate citizens from running a campaign and from being elected public officials. The paper is accompanied by the first translation of this Lysias’ oration into Serbian.
