Summary/Abstract: N. Čepulis’s article “The Global Cooling of New Media” elaborated the new media shift towards cool media. My article continues the critical analysis of the new media and capitalism. It focuses on the correlation of societies of spectacle and the spectacle of violence. G. Debord juxtaposes the genesis of societies of spectacle with the genesis of contemporary capitalism. It is a new form of exploitation, in which alienation takes a new form, because the social life itself becomes a mere “spectacle.” The latter is finally subjected to the consumeristic process. Leaning on H.A. Giroux and B. Evans, it is shown that contemporary capitalism can function only by producing spectacles of violence, that employing new media control and neutralize the adverse outcomes of capitalism.
