Summary/Abstract: The phenomena of migration encourages the Catholic Church to reconsider its Mission in the World, which was defined in the Second Vatican Council as missio ad gentes. The development of pastoral care of migrants in the last decade and researches made in the field of theology of migration raise the need to move from the concept of ad gentes to the concept of inter gentes. In the article, the author examines the origins of the concept of missio inter gentes in Scripture’s story of Jesus meeting the Samaritan at the well. According to Revelation, there are four possible stages in the application of inter gentes: meeting in the plane of hospitality, compassion and empathy, proclamation through testimony, evangelization through presence among people. These stages highlight aspects of presumable adaptability in the pastoral care of migrants as expressed by Pope Francis: to welcome, to protect, to promote and to integrate.
