Summary/Abstract: The introduction of nationwide testing of 5th grade students in the subjects Slovak language and Slovak literature and Mathematics brought both positive and negative elements to the educational process at the primary school level. Assessment of student learning outcomes for a certain period of schooling is a school’s final activity. Education reforms made it necessary to focus on formulating tests as a means of verifying the attained level of education after the completion of various levels of education at the nationwide level. The educational process should be good enough to enable students to achieve a high level of success in testing as a direct result of its quality.
