Summary/Abstract: The issues of mentality and characteristics of the national character were raised in the literature, mainly in the historical and political journalism of modern times. A significant feature of Polish historiography and historiosophy of the 19th and early 20th centuries was the discussion on the Polish national character. The diagnoses of their national character, most often unfavorable for Poles, formulated at that time, were intended toinspire the desired and expected educational mission in this field.
