Summary/Abstract: The article presents an image of one of the most significant American foreign policy strategy of the past – isolationism. With a hisotical perspective on how the United States foreign policy was creating and changing through the decades, the difference between basic definition of political isolation and isolation carried by USA was highlighted. It was shown how specific term American isolationism is. Particular attention is given to connection between specific foreign policy doctrines and reasons for which they were created. Remarks also adress variable attitude of USA, which were balancing through the history between two strategies: isolation and intervention. At the end of the article author takes a look closer to nowadays position of United States on the foreign policy field
