Summary/Abstract: In the focus of analysis in this article are relations between individual creativity of the 19th century poet and educationalist Kajetonas Aleknavičius and the folk song tradition. Main events of the poet’s life, the educative purposes of his work and his public activities are also surveyed. The individual creativity of this poet is commented upon from the folkloric, literary and, partly, from the rhetorical perspective. Attempts are made at determining the scale of folkloric features in the original poetry by K. Aleknavičius, as well as establishing the proportion of influences coming from literary poetry and folk song tradition, affecting his creative work. The exceptional quality of the work by this poet in the contemporary literary context is also emphasized. Analysis of the most widely spread texts by this poet revealed the peculiarities of form and content determining their popularity in the countryside. K. Aleknavičius’ poetry is regarded as being very suggestive and therefore agreeable to his contemporary readers.
