Summary/Abstract: The priest Motiejus Valančius (Wolonczewskis) became historical work „Samogitian Bishopric“ („Žemajtiu Wiskupiste“) where be described the bishops, who ruled Samogitian bishopric from 1417 till 1841. The author of the article characterizes sixteen more prominent bishops, who ruled the bishopric for about 10 years and were more notable for their pastoral activities the rest thirty - three bishops described by Motiejus Valančius. The bishops Merkelis Giedraitis and Jurgis Tiškevičius were the most prominent among the sixteen ones. The author has compared their pastoral works with the famous pastoral works of the bishop Motiejus Valančius, because his pastoral activities were the most remarkable. En 1926 Telšiai bishopric was founded in the territory of Samogitian bishopric. Two famous bishops worked there. The first one was the bishop Justinas Staugaitis, who founded Telšiai Priests Seminary and built the building of the Priest Seminary. The second one was the famous bishop Antanas Vaičius, who in 1989 restored Telšiai Priest Seminary, which prohibited and closed by the soviet Occupation authorities in 1946.
