Summary/Abstract: The article tries to present the social institute as a phenomenon of social theory and practice, following the author's understanding of this public construction, based on a synthesis of existing methodological and theoretical views. It advances a theoretic understanding on the formation of abstract concepts about the institute, its generic features, and functions.
