Summary/Abstract: Bukovina (“The Land of Beech Trees”) or the Duchy of Bukovina as part of the Austrian Empire, is a vast territory with numerous resources (natural, cultural, historical, balneal) and can be regarded as a huge open-air museum. The cultural heritage of Suceava County has a great historical value and its tangible and intangible patrimony attracts tourists from all over the world. Yet, one of the most important values, which offers authenticity and uniqueness to the region’s landscape is the traditional village and its particularities. The rural areas are preservers of old customs, traditions, and crafts, where the talent and passion for beauty are transformed into true works of art, from the ceramics and hand woven carpets or knitwear to the traditional folklore instruments. The article aims to create an overview of the characteristics of Bukovina’s rural space and also to identify the intangible elements that are directly connected to this area. The traditional village captures the particularities of the north western part of Moldavia. It is also based on customs, traditions and a certain rural typology that play an important role in enhancing tourism activity at the regional level.
