Summary/Abstract: The author analyses seminal synthetic and textbook works written by Joachim Lelewel and the most prominent representatives of his school: Jędrzej Moraczewski and Henryk Schmitt. These works have been analyzed in terms of Jesuits’ role in combating the reformation. Jesuits, according to Lelewel school of thought, not only played a key role in overcoming Protestantism and bringing about the victory of the Reformation. Moreover, they are said to have contributed to the demise of the state. The Lelewel school of thought played a crucial role in perpetuating the Jesuit myth in the Polish historiography.
