Summary/Abstract: The following leading article is a brief historical look at the emergence and evolution of the German-language press in Bukovina over the course of almost a century (1848–1940), marked by important political changes in the province’s status and the aftermath of the two world wars. The author mentions the main periodicals from the beginning of the press and refers to the fast development of the German-language press untill the outbreak of the First World War. He then mentions the difficulties caused by the war conditions in the evolution of the newspaper market and moves to the interwar period, when the German language press has again an ascendent course, and ends with 1940, when the last periodical of this type ceases to appear.
