In the Service of Church and Nation: Metropolitan Silvestru Morariu Andrievici

Summary/Abstract: The study follows the ascension within the Orthodox Church of Bukovina of Silvestru Morariu Andrievici, from being a country priest, to achieving the highest dignity, that of metropolitan. Throughout his life, Silvestru Morariu Andrievici was concerned with the issue of the Romanian language in Bukovina, the schooling of Romanian children, for which he wrote age-appropriate text books, the improvement of the cultural level of the inhabitants in general and of the priests in particular. He was a lover and supporter of thearts, a philanthropist and, through all his actions, he managed to create a national emulation within the Orthodox Church of Bukovina.
