Summary/Abstract: After 2014, Western community demonstrated an increased interest in the Black Sea Region and the will to deter Moscow’s unilateral interventions. Russia however, has retained enough ability and motivation to counter these developments. The area has become a relevant security arena for the NATO-Russia competition, and this amplified the mistrust among the costal nations. Russia seeks to maintain its position as the leading nation in the Black Sea Region and continues to increase and modernize its military capabilities in order to be able to further project its power to the Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East and North Africa. As a consequence, Moscow remains sensitive to military activities and especially to the new US redeployments in this region and is already perceiving the build-up of military forces as provocative.
