Summary/Abstract: Aim: The main aim of this study was to determine the incidence and prevalence of flat feet and poor posture in children. Subsequently, we compared the posture of children with flat feet with the posture of children with a physiological arch. We also investigated what footwear children wear during normal daily activities, as this can affect the shape of the arch of the foot and indirectly affect the development of posture. Material and methods: The study sample consisted of 30 children aged 8-9. They attended second year of primary school V. Javorka in Žilina. The examinations were performed with the consent of legal representatives. We examined children in January 2020. We used Napoleon Wolanski to evaluate the posture and the flat feet. To evaluated footwear, we used a non-standardized questionnaire, which was designed for parents of children. We processed the results in MS Excel and present them in bar graphs. Results: The incidence and prevalence of flat feet and poor posture in children is very common. Segmental postural disorders are present in both group: in children with pedes plani as well as in children with physiologic arch of the foot. 86% of students with flat feet had pathological spinal curvature. When monitoring the parameters of footwear, we found that 64% of children with flat feet wear so called fashion shoes. Medical shoes wear only 29% of children with pedes plani. only 7% of children with pedes plani wear so called “barefoot shoes”. Conclusion: The occurrence of flat feet in children in the second grade of primary school is a relatively common phenomenon. The prevalence of poor posture is also high. Each monitored child suffered from postural pathology in at least 2 segments of the body. This phenomenon was diagnosed in children with flat feet, but also in children with a physiologically shaped arch. During normal daily activities, children wear inappropriate shoes. We recommend: include flat foot exercises and exercises for incorrect posture in children’s daily activities. We also recommend wearing a proper shoes during the day.
