Summary/Abstract: The article analyses the main peculiarities of public and organisations’ management. Business and public organizations, working in the same environment, operate different systems of management. Efficiency is one of the essential differences between public and private organisations. While efficiency in the case of private firm can usually be measured by comparing the amount of resources used for production and the amount of outcome produced it is not the same with public organisations. As underlying and fundamental aim of the new public management (NPM) reform program is to transform management of public organisations into a business-like management. NPM incorporates the importation of private sector management systems and techniques into the public services.
