Summary/Abstract: The article presents basic diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to transsexuals. The author presents his own view of the Gestalt therapist on the whole issue. At the same time it warns against differential diagnostic errors and modern trends in rapid diagnosis and the initiation of transition at an early age. It also consider whether there are really up to 100 different ways of describing gender and the extent to which clinical and popular terminology are confused, as well as legitimizing psychopathology. The article also attemps to define the role of psychotherapists not only in the field of expertise but also in the wider social context. Finally it wanders whether the prevalence of gender identity disorders (GID) is still noticeably low or there is an uncharted increase. And whether research is still a mental disorder, or rather a biological one, or even a biological-environmental one, whose complexity is overlooked due to the so-called systemic blindness.
