Summary/Abstract: Psalm 119 is based on both the divine promise and the fulfillment of that promise, just as it happens most of the Sacred Scripture. Joy and suffering are not only in a deplorable way presented and presented together, but as they are equal in their intensity, they are both irresolvable and uncertain. The virtues of truth and dignity within the community, and justice, which is above all and perceived as the will of God for His people Israel, are the ideals that this psalm emphasizes. The fact that God promises His help to the needy, which characterizes the whole Law and Prophets, is revealed by the fact that the believer illuminates in his life the effect he feels on his faith. The Psalm gains more meanings once it opens up a perspective on a collection of „pilgrim hymns”. Although the original psalm has undergone some transformation, it still retains its essence. For the Jews of Diaspora who lived far away from the Holy Land and the Temple, this transformation of the psalm came as an expression of their renewed belief that the God of Israel is always on their side and pours out His grace so that they can cope the hostility of foreign enemies. They came as pilgrims, loaded with the trials of life. Their arrival at the sanctuary brought them the renewal of the hope and the courage to live as God's people in strange land and to continue their action of reconciling those who opposed them. This extent of the applicability of the Psalm has paved the way for the New Testament people to inherit it in turn, especially as regards the references made to a part of 1 Ptr 1, 1-2; 2, 11-12.
