Summary/Abstract: During the last 25 years there has been a great impact in language and gender research in the world. Only rarely has there been trend reflected in the research of Yugoslav scholars. There was an authochtonous development, dominantly prescriptive, lacking strong theoretical and methodological ground. Only in the last 15 years have empirical results been given in the domain of discourse analysis and psycholinguistics (project “Psycholinguistic Studies” in Novi Sad). These results are a good ground for the future selection of a norm of usage for title and professional terms in Standard Serbian language.
