SOCIO-CULTURAL SIMILARITIES BETWEEN TODAY’S ALBANIA AND ANCIENT SPARTANS

Summary/Abstract: In my scientific paper "Socio-cultural similarities between today's Albanians and ancient Spartans "the aim is to point out the elements of Albanian folklore that were found in ancient Greece. It is known that ancient Greek civilization was a conglomerate in the socio-politic organization of the polises, and the speficic subculture gave glory all over the world. But this Hellenic civilization was also spread in the Pelasgian lands, in various Illyrian settlements, so many of the illyrian cultural and artistic elements (dialects, customs, rites, games, dances, music etc.) mingled with the surrounding ones, becoming part of megacivilizing cultural infrastructure known as the Hellenic antique culture. Through a substantive and comparative analysis, the similarities between the texts of the Hellenic (Spartan) patriotic songs, and the Lahute (music intrument) of the Albanian areas of Malësia and the legendary ancient musical instrument called Lyra, will be revealed. However, the presence of Albanian folklore in Greek antiquity also attracts a host of choreografic elements such as costumes that resemble those of antuquity, song character, dance model, venue of manifestations, types of musical instruments, and so on. Despite all dramatic vicissitudes in history, the Albanian people continue to cult patriotic music (epic) and managed to preserve this ancient cultural-artistic tradition to this day.
