KOLIČINA PROIZVEDENOG OTPADA U GRADU VRANJU KAO INDIKATOR ZAPROCENU ODRŽIVOG RAZVOJA U FUNKCIJI ZAŠTITE ŽIVOTNE SREDINE
PRODUCED WASTE QUANTITY IN THE VRANJE CITY AS AN INDICATOR FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT ASSESSMENT IN THE FUNCTION OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

Summary/Abstract: Regarding the consequences of increasing waste amounts in the environment, nowadays waste is highlighted as one of the most significant environmental problem of the modern world. Waste generation is the result of the overall economic activity of each country and is in direct correlation with the national economy. Proper waste disposal, together with recycling and composting as environmentally acceptable waste management methods, contribute significantly to the cohesion of economic development and environmental responsibility, with the main aim: development of an efficient and healthy society. The importance of monitoring the total amount of produced waste, by types and activities in which they are generated, is also recognized in the National List of Indicators of the Republic of Serbia ("Official Gazette of RS" No. 37/11). Sustainable waste management is of importance for preserving human health, the environment and natural resources. The methodology used in this paper includes statistical data analysis of PE "Komrad" Vranje of deposited waste amount in the period 2015-2019 years. Research deals with monitoring the amount of waste deposited from the territory of the Vranje City and the city municipality of Vranjska Banja, at the sanitary landfill "Meteris". A change trends of municipal, commercial and industrial amount waste deposited in a five-year period have been established. The analysis of data of the produced waste total amount from the territory of Vranje and Vranjska Banja shows a positive upward trend, from 66.518 m3 in 2015 to 81.383 m3 in 2019. Regarding the analyzed waste types, significant increase of municipal waste amount is noticed which is in strong correlation with regional gross domestic product (GDP).
