Summary/Abstract: Li Qingzhao, the greatest Chinese poetess, lived in the time of Song dynasty. That was the period when trade, crafts and art bloomed, but also the time of great changes which affected both her life and her poetry. Li Qingzhao is mostly renowned by her ci poems - the poetic genre in which a given tune was “filled” with words. There are two distinct periods in her poetry writing, with the turning point in 1127. Poetry of the first period is full of love, emotions and longing, expressed with an unusual openness. Poems of the second period are melancholic and speak about sadness, fear and unhappiness.
