Summary/Abstract: Back pain is among the most common complaints patients present to their doctors. Dedicated study of etiology, pathogenesis and characteristics of back pain are crucial for early prevention and treatment. Due to the fact that in most cases causes of back pain remain undetected or are a symptom of other diseases (most often structural causes), research on common pathokinesiologic characteristics would indicate an algorithm for the most commonly used treatment, namely physical medicine and in particular, kinesitherapy.Aim: To study back pain as a medical and socio-economic problemTasks1. To make an overview of the etiology, pathogenesis and features of back pain‘s clinical course.2. To study general pathokinesiologic characteristics of back pain3. To study socio-economic significance of back painBack pain is extremely common in elderly population and every second person has complaints. Causes may be quite diverse, in most cases, they are relatively innocuous such overload of structures due to degenerative changes. Thus this comparatively less serious yet chronic condition can worsen quality of life and restrict some motor activities. Combined with being a serious health issue, back pain has significant social and economic consequences - deteriorating quality of life, reduced work capacity and disability, associated with high costs for the health and social systems.
