CODUL ENESCU BY GH. CIOBANU: PECULIARITIES OF MODAL-ARMONIC AND FACTURAL ORGANIZATION

Summary/Abstract: The piece „Codul Enescu” for string orchestra by Gh. Ciobanu appears to be original and distinctive in its creative method. Here a kind of dialogue between the composer and the Romanian Maestro takes place. Gh. Ciobanu creates a vivid compositionbased on the identifi cation and subsequent personal reading of the general features of G. Enescu’s style – his musical andlogical codes. The composer uses a special heterophonic-polyphonic texture with a variable number of voices, and also applies intensive chromatization of the material based on polymodal twelve-tone and “stretching technique”, which characterizes the principlesof the new modality in general.
