Summary/Abstract: The main objective of the article is to present the academic, didactic and organisa -tional achievements of Professor Bogusław Mrozek (1930-2020), the pioneer ofregional studies and research on India and the South Asia region in Poland. It shouldalso be pointed out that he was a co-founder and the first director of the Instituteof International Relations in the years 1976–1977. A proper assessment of the outputof any researcher does not boil down only to a conventional summary of academicachievements, but first of all requires presentation of the historical context of itsformation. This includes not only political and ideological circumstances, butprimarily the state of academic discourse in a given period of time. With this in mind,the paper will first attempt to identify the status of international relations researchin Poland in the years 1957–1977 and then the academic activity of ProfessorB. Mrozek. Mrozek.
