Summary/Abstract: Vladimir Ciolac is one of the most famous representatives of musical culture in the Republic of Moldova since the confl uenceof the 20th-21st centuries who carries out a prolific activity of conductor, composer and pedagogue. Although the central axis ofthis activity is represented by choral music V. Ciolac approached in his creation several genres of instrumental music, includingthe sonata. This article is devoted to the analysis of the Sonata for flute and piano composed in 1986. Although monopartite, the composition of the Sonata reveals the typical structure of a more or less traditional sonata allegro in which in some sections the latent manifestation of the functions of the other parts of the cyclic form is observed. . Thus, we find that V. Ciolac’s Sonata combines elements typical of classical-romantic sonatas and features characteristic of musical thinking in the second half of the 20th century, demonstrating the tendency to overcome pre-existing patterns and diversify the forms of musical discourse.
