Summary/Abstract: This article represents an analysis of the compositional and stylistic particularities of two miniatures for violin and pianoby E. Elgar written in the years 1988-1980, complementing them with recommendations that might come in useful for thestudy process of violinists and the successful performance of these musical gems. Salut d’amour is a lyrical drawing-room piece in a style characteristic of the composer’s writing, expressed through simplicity, typical of this early period of creation. Being considered to be an accessible piece both to the large audience and amateurviolinists, it is frequently presented in entertainment concerts. Bizarrerie is a virtuoso piece which refl ects the characteristics of the Elgar violin style through the alternation of musicalarticulations such as staccato, dotted rhythmical fi gures and staccato-volant. The name of this miniature, in our opinion, depictsits whimsy character which persists throughout the musical discourse, as well as in its unusual structure.
