Summary/Abstract: The motives for the revelation of the Qur’an are very important to both its understanding and translation. There were many examples of misunderstanding the situation in which certain Qur’anic verses were revealed, which made consultation with those better aquainted with the situation in pre-Islamic times of crucial importance. Why is it necessary to pay more attention to the motives for the revelation of the Qur’an? There are several reasons for this. The reasons for the revelation of the Qur’an are related to the main sources of our religion, to the Qur’an and the hadith of the Messenger of Allah. The second reason relates to the large number of fabricated hadiths on the occasion of the revelation of the Qur’an. Many transmitters of hadith were very careful in transmitting hadith after the death of the Messenger of Allah. Abu Bakr and Umar, the first and the second of the Rashidun Caliphate (rightly guided caliphs), warned about this phenomenon. As it has been recorded, Umar once arrested three men and put them in prison: Ibn Mas’ud, Abu Derda’a and Abu Mas’ud al-Ansari, and told them: “You are among the first ones to do the forbidden and exaggerate in transmitting hadith from the Prophet, p.b.u.h. You didn’t obey me, and this is your reward.” The hadith is a very important source of sharia and tradition and can only be accepted if it has been confirmed by two witnesses. (...)
