Summary/Abstract: The article consists of three sections. The first is about of the Book of Songs (Kitāb al-aghānī) by Abu al-Faraj al-Iṣfahānī, and his work on collecting cultural heritage, which otherwise would have been either lost or destroyed in military invasions. The second section is about Kaʽb ibn Zuhayr and his work Qaṣīdat al-burda, the manner and conditions of its recitation, the views of the Prophet and the Companions about the poem, the poem’s ending and about the final chapter in Kitāb al-aghānī on Ka‘b ibn Zuhayr. The third section addresses the Qasidat al-burda’s reception in the east and in the west, its printing, its translations in verse its prose, and its imitations.
