Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to problematize Nietzsche’s accentuated formulation „Dionysus versus the Crucified“. In the 1st part, Nietzsche’s Dionysus is impartially introduced. In the 2nd part, Nietzsche’s Dionysus is evaluated. In part 3, Nietzsche’s Jesus is impartially introduced. In part 4, Nietzsche’s Jesus is critically evaluated. Finally, in part 5, Jesus Christ and Dionysus are comparatively assessed, approaching Christ from the perspective of Christian Christology and Dionysus from Nietzsche’s perspective. In this way Nietzsche’s formulation „Dionysus versus the Crucified“ will be weakened, while also acknowledging the serious differences between Christ and Dionysus. The final section of part 5 compare the Christian and tragic sense of suffering, because the phenomenon of suffering plays a decisive role in comparing Christ and Dionysus. In contrast to Nietzsche, it turns out that Christ, by his suffering on the cross, does not devalue earthly life, but on the contrary strengthens and enables us to meaningfully manage the finiteness of earthly life.
