Summary/Abstract: The study deals with the question of the cryptic expression κατέχον / κατέχων – found, probably in the inauthentic letter of the Apostle Paul, in (2Sol 2 - which during 1942 – 1944 and 1950 – 1957 “introduced” lawyer Carl Schmitt to his political philosophy. The study will first offer a brief overview of the history of the exegesis of the term κατέχον / κατέχων and then will focus on κατέχον / κατέχων’s interpretation in Carl Schmitt’s political theology. In this interpretation, the study will follow the hypothesis that Schmitt’s interest in κατέχον / κατέχων was based on his interest in “thinking of order” (Ordnungsdenken). Finally, the study offers a critique of Schmitt’s interpretation of κατέχον / κατέχων, especially in the philosophy of Giorgio Agamben.
