Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the significance of Muhammad Iqbal in the world heritage of poetry, his views on poetry and poets, his opposing views on Plato’s poetic art and comparison of poets and prophets. It especially treats the relation between poetry and philosophy in the overall opus of the poet-philosopher-reformer, brings some clips from Ikbal’s most famous poems and songs of lament, triggers their formation and gives a brief answer to the question of why (and how) to read Muhammad Iqbal today.
