Summary/Abstract: This paper begins with a discussion of Kant’s ideas concerning the possibility of the a priori construction of motion and concludes that such a construction can take place only if the transcendental subject has already distinguished between a relative and an absolute space. Then, I shortly describe the increasing complexity of the determination of space beginning with the Transcendental Aesthetics of the first Critique and ending with the moving spaces of the Phoronomy chapter of the Metaphysical Foundations. The conclusion is that the a priori construction of speed presupposes the transcendental action of representing space as an object.
