THE IMPORTANCE AND PLACE OF MUHAMMAD, P.B.U.H., IN ISLAMIC STUDIES

Summary/Abstract: The biography of the last God’s prophet, Muhammad, p.b.u.h., is an outstanding Islamic study to which the scholars have been devoting great attention since first generation of his followers. Knowledge about the Prophet p.b.u.h., is a necessary part of religious identity of every Muslim and at the same time response to the order of the Almighty to know His Messenger to the people. It is enough to say that the second part of the Shahadah (testimony of faith) relates to the testimony of prophethood of Muhammad p.b.u.h. In this regard it is important to separate the notions of history and biography, especially when it comes to Muhammad p.b.u.h. because it is a model of behavior that transcends time and space frames. The significance of Sira lies in the contents and answers which are offered for all the times, by which the Islamic teachings are realized in the social context. Understanding of the importance of biography of Prophet Muhammad p.b.u.h., the position that this science has within Islamic studies and legal treatment of dealing and studying of biography are the aspects that this paper deals with.
