Summary/Abstract: The paper is concerned with the Skopos theory applied in the translation process. A principle behind each translation is its aim or function which is called a ´skopos´. The way of translation and related strategies which the translator selects in the process of translation are determined by the skopos or the function of the text and therefore the translator´s aim plays a key role since it affects and justifies their acts and decisions. The article also deals with translator´s competencies and also discussed issues are the concept of coherence, both the intertextual and intratextual ones and criticism of the presented Skopos theory.
