Summary/Abstract: Among the most affected countries by the new coronavirus, Brazil has also been home to a continuous political battle between the President and the States’ governors. Through Facebook posts and press declarations, this article follows the confrontation between Jair Bolsonaro and João Doria, governor of São Paolo, since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, until January 2021 when the first vaccines arrived in the country. We argue that the divisions arising between these two politicians are a reflection of the deeper issues that the pandemic has brought to the surface in Bolsonaro’s Brazil.
