Summary/Abstract: Time is the basic predictor of human existence. The question of time is inseparable from the question of God and, consequently, of human choice and will. The aim of the article is to show the importance of time in theology, as well as to illustrate the points at which this question arises. The inspiration in this search is the thought of J. Ratzinger, which links time with our understanding of eternity and human existence. Four issues will be discussed: (1) the meaning of time in theology in general; (2) the main vectors of Ratzinger's concept of time; (3) the relationship between time and eternity; and (4) the relation of temporality to human freedom. The research will be based on Ratzinger's source texts, their analysis, and an attempt to extract the guiding lines in his understanding of time: the relation to eternity, the dialogical concept of immortality, as well as the concept of exitus and reditus. The result of the research is the indication of the close relationship between time and eternity, which is realized in Christ and, following his example, in every human being.
