Summary/Abstract: In the present paper we deal with an issue of the development of papal primacy between First and Second Vatican Council. Our research has shown that during this period, while the centralization of the church authority continued, at the same time, due to particular historical and political circumstances, there was a spiritual momentum, the movement that was coming from the inside of the Church itself, and not from hierarchical authority, which included emphasis on the Church as the mystical Body of Christ. This required a new reconciliation of hierarchical leadership of the Church, headed by the Pope, with the mystical, charismatic life of the Church, manifested in understanding of the Church as the Body of Christ, of the Church as a community. The attempt to achieve this reconciliation has been made on Second Vatican Council.
