Summary/Abstract: The authors of the study deal with the issues of developing different views, proposals and arrangements concerning the concept of teacher professional development in Slovakia after 1989. They focus mainly on the analysis of processes forming the concept of teachers’ professional development within a career system. This analysis relates to two aspects of these processes: the aspect of a professional view on the one side, and the aspect of a political view of these issues on the other side. The authors point out the connecting and dividing lines between these two aspects and indicate the problems based on the domination of the political aspect over the professional one.
