Summary/Abstract: Several classifications of feminist literary criticism are presented in the text, in order to illustrate both the development and diversity of this theoretical approach. The special attention is given to gynocriticism, as one of the types of American feminist criticism. The term gender and the research of female literary tradition, which are the basic constituents of gynocriticism, are explained in detail. The part of the text about the research of tradition focuses on the three classical gynocritical studies. The future of feminist criticism is discussed from the perspective of the different expectations about the development of the approach.
