Dual Citizenship and the Suffrage of Persons with Dual Nationality

Summary/Abstract: The study attempts to reveal the misuse of suffrage of Bulgarian citizens with dual nationality for political purposes. Persons with dual citizenship who reside permanently outside Bulgaria come in organized groups to vote in the local elections and in some regions they have a casting vote for the election of mayors and local councils. Although their vote is not illegal, it is in fact a misuse of the right to vote and it is illogical. It is fair for these persons to exercise their basic political right in the country where their permanent residence is. This is a principle of the international law adopted by most of the civilized countries.
