Summary/Abstract: The transition from a centralised state economy and an authoritarian political government to democracy bears not only positive but also negative consequences. The most dangerous for the society are: weakening of the social and legal control and the increase of the organised crime. In Bulgaria the transition was badly prepared and performed. The state abruptly and categorically withheld from the management of production without having created conditions for development of the private enterprise. During the transition period a few waves of economic criminality have emerged, which are studied in the article.
