Summary/Abstract: The paper starts from feminist interpretations of autobiography as gendered genre, in which specificities of the narrative situation of female subject are more visible then in the other forms of literary discourses. Erasing boundaries between public and private, autobiography proves to be potentially subversive in regard with socially approved stereotypes on gender roles. Thus Elena Rzhevskaya, in Distant Rumble, an autobiographical narrative on her experiences as military interpreter in post-war Europe, was able to inscribe a new reading of history in her narration on Stalin’s times from female perspective.
