The Problems of Origen’s Christology

Summary/Abstract: While considering Origen’s Christology, one must consider the fact that he belongs to the formative period of Christian theology, during which christological terminology was not yet developed. Therefore, the question of subordination in Triadology is very complicated. Furthermore, there are strong indications that Origen’s Triadology could be understood as Nicene in essence even though there are certain weaknesses typical for pre-nicene theology. However, terminology is not the only problem of Origen’s Christology. The crucial problem is Origen’s adoption of platonic dualistic ontology and the fact that Incarnation was not crucial for salvation. The importance of Incarnation in the act of Divine economy determines the place of Origen’s Christology in the history of development of theology.
