Summary/Abstract: During the national struggle, Malatya, a small residential region of Mamure’t-ül Aziz province, included the city centre, Hısn-ı Mansur (Adıyaman), Behisni (Besni), Kahta and Akçadağ district provinces. Civilians of Malatya, severely reacting against the decisions reached at the Armistice of Mudros, during the late 1919 February, determined the which people would attend the Erzurum Congress to be held 23 July 1919. The Society to Defend the Rights of Malatya, on British Colonel Noel’s arrival in Malatya on 3 rd September 1919, started to come to life and in due course of the reorganization decisions of the Society for the Defense of the Rights of Anatolia and Rumeli paved its course of life. During the national struggle years, Malatya, unoccupied by enemies and its civilians, protesting the occupation of the homeland, Anatolia, sent armed forces composed of volunteers to Ayntâb, Maraş and Urfa to help their brothers in their national fight. The Society to Defend the Rights of Malatya, which was found out that it had started correspondence with the Representative Committee organizing the civilians, began to act like a united body around the national struggle of the country. It has been observed that, on 11th May 1920, The Society to Defend the Rights of Malatya had donated 150.000 kuruş by that date. The Society to Defend the Rights of Malatya, organizing in cash and in kind help, sent them both to the Representative Committee, found in Ankara and the Societies to Defend the Rights, found in Urfa and Maraş.
