Summary/Abstract: Every autobiographical prologue to a work is a paratext that, in addition to constituting a reading orientation susceptible of analysis due to its own content, is also confi gured as a relevantelement from the point of view of literary enunciation, as long as it is understood apart from the fictional strategies that the author will display within the core text. It is from this conditiont hat it is interesting to analyse the prologues of La hija del mar (1859), Cantares gallegos (1863) and Follas novas (1880) by Rosalía de Castro, which will be commented from three main analysis parameters: memory, gender and community. In the first place, it will be opportune to read the Rosalian prologues as places of memory in themselves, in which the authorial voice addresses a message to the readership. Secondly, I will review Rosalía de Castro’s prologues in the light of her condition as a woman and writer, which was not a minor issue for the female authors of the 19th century. Finally, the different types of community that are outlined in the prologues of La hija del mar, Cantares gallegos and Follas novas will be interpreted through the textual and symbolic conformation of a social memory and collective emotions.
